Spring is here, our flowers are
blooming, the weather is heating up and new life is springing
up everywhere. It
seems like this is the time for change, and we are seeing and
hearing about it from all of you.
New jobs, new locations, new families, spring sure
brings a lot of new!!
A
big change has come the way of our dear friend Leslie, she is
back from
Scotland
, Vicki (her daughter) is doing very well as she awaits her
kidney transplant. Robbie
her son, has presented her with another grandchild, this time
a grandson! Now
you would think that was a lot of change for one person, but
not our Leslie! Eric
and Leslie have moved to
Hot Springs
,
Arkansas
, where they have bought a motel.
It is called Alpine Inn and they are loving being
caretakers to their new home and many revolving guests.
We are planning a knitting retreat there sometime in
the fall We
wish Leslie and Eric much success in their new endeavors and
even though they are farther away in distance, they will
always be close in
my heart!
Special thanks here for Denise Boyd.
Denise is one of our fun customers who has jumped in
here at the shop and helped inspire some new class ideas and
just been an angel in my life lately.
Thank you Denise. Thank
you to Lynette Karasz for all of the fabulous treats she
brings to us on Thursday nights!
On
Friday, we had a young marine come into our store to buy a
gift for a woman who is like a grandmother to him.
All he knew is that she knits.
As I was searching the shop looking for something that
she might like, I ended up showing him a pattern for helmet
liners. His
reaction was overwhelming, he had tears in his eyes as he
explained to me how badly these liners are needed.
He wanted to know the cost of getting one knitted for
every member of his unit.
So I am begging for donations of helmet liners to be
brought to the shop. Their
unit is leaving to go on their second tour to
Afghanistan
and he explained to me how absolutely cold it is at night and
that they need them not only to keep their heads warm but to
keep the sand off of their faces.
This is the link for a free helmet liner pattern.
It takes one skein of either Cascade 220 or Dark Horse
Rhapsody and a size 8 needle.
If you are making these helmet liners, they must be
made out of wool and in colors like tan, khaki, black, brown
or navy. http://knitting.about.com/od/hatpatterns/a/helmetliner.htm
We know only too well how bad the
economy is. There
are yarn stores closing every where not just in the metroplex.
We are taking this into consideration and trying to
survive ourselves. Some
of the ways we are trying is to start a shopping cart on our
website. Cathe and
I are working on that right now and hope in the next 30 days
to have it up and running!
Wish us luck.
Secondly
we are going into our summer hours a little earlier this year.
Starting April 20th we will be closed on
Mondays and closing at 4:pm on Friday and Saturday.
This helps keep our utility and payroll costs down, so
jot it down!
Third, every week we are putting
yarns on sale from 35% to 75% off.
When the shopping cart is up and running on our site,
we will be running specials for our mail order customers.
I have watched several small businesses close and we
are trying our hardest to weather these hard economic times,
but we cannot do it without you.
Please keep us in mind no matter how small your
crocheting or knitting needs are we would love to help.
Remember all of your favorite privately owned businesses; we
cannot exist without our customers.
Our New Class Schedule is up and we
are so excited about it. From
learning how to design your own top to the most popular
Ravelry pattern, the Knitted Swirl Scarf to Socks and many
more, we are hearing and seeing your thirst for knowledge and
trying to accommodate.
A
Big Thank You!!
From
Cathe
As
many of you know, my family has just gone through a terrible
tragedy with the unexpected death of my nephew Will.
Will was lost at sea off the coast of
Tampa/St. Pete
. His close friend
Nick was rescued and was able to share with us the last hours
of my nephew’s life which has been a huge comfort to all of
us. Nick has
stated many times that he would not be alive today if not for
Will. Will gave
his life in service of his three friends.
He was able to go under and retrieve life vests, food
and water from the overturned boat.
There were three vests and one flotation device—Will
gave the vests to his friends and used the flotation pillow
for himself. That’s
just Will. Will
was one of those gentle giants, successful in life at an early
age and a friend to everyone he met.
He will be forever missed, our Will-- son, brother,
nephew, cousin, friend, hero.
It
was hard to come back and leave my sister and her family, my
heart is in Florida with her, but what a surprise to receive
the Live Oak that so many of you contributed to.
It will be planted in our front yard this week where we
will watch it grow into a “gentle giant” and mature as
Will would have. It
helps so much to know that others care.
Thank you.
