January 2010 Update

Greetings and Good Wishes for a happy, healthy and prosperous new year to each of you. I have been thinking about this post for a
while. There are so many thing so talk about and now with my new toy and it’s voice recorder when I think of things I can record them
and when I am ready I can find them. Notes just didn’t work for me; I couldn’t find them…LOl

My New Years Resolution…To be more organized, I used to be the most organized person, I hardly recognize myself now. At the end
of the year I always like to reflect on the year as do most people. In my year end reflections, the word that kept popping into my head
for the New Year is Cherish, and that is exactly what I am doing. Cherishing every moment. Life is short and I want to cherish what I
do, who I deal with and the people who surround me. It’s been a tough year for lots of people and we have made it to 2010. Doesn’t it
seem futuristic to write those numbers? Whatever your new year’s resolutions are, good luck and let’s get started.

CLASSES
The new class schedule has posted. The ever popular Socks, Two at a Time on Circular Needles, Tunisian Crochet, Fingerless
Gloves,
An Argyle Scarf, and Your Sweater Your Way, just to name a few of the classes. Now when you look at the class schedule
you can click the top and email us if you have questions about the class or would like to sign up. We are hoping to get the shopping cart
up within the next two weeks and the classes will be the first thing available for purchase online.
We are looking for a felting class to add. We would like it to have something do with Easter. Looks like maybe a basket, or perhaps an
Easter bonnet, with lots of frills upon it. They are filling quickly and we would love to have you so please stop in and pick a class.

WHAT’S NEW
Today, I spent the day checking in lots of new books and I am in trouble, So Fine is right up my alley with fine gauge yarns. Vintage
Socks back in as well as More Socks on Two Circular Needles, and Knitting Socks with Handpainted Yarns looks really yummy.
Interweave has put out some beautiful new
Harmony Guides both in Crochet and Knitting and we have them now. Knit Kimonos back
by popular demand,
Knitting Little Luxuries and Knitted Gifts are truly wonderful books with great ideas for quick gifts. They are
gorgeous books. New Lace books such as;
The Harmony Guide to Lace and Eyelets, 250 lace stitches! Folk Shawls is back in stock
as well as
Gossamer Webs to name a few. I think Spring is a wonderful time to knit lace shawls and I sure am ready for that. In April
we are going to have a class on the most lovely lace shawl. I have to remake the model as the one in the store sold over Christmas. I
know there is a very happy woman in Arlington, and what a wonderful husband!

The Lantern Moon
Silk Knit Out Boxes are back in stock and again selling quickly as are the fun, I Make String Pretty T Shirts.
As many of you have requested we now have the Pony Rosewood Double Points in stock in 8" from US 5-9. We also have the Cobolo
Rosewood Needles in Stock in larger sizes in 36" length.

New Yarns and are they really yummy. One of the most popular yarns at Yarn Heaven has always been the ultra soft
Peruvian Tweed
and
Prime Alpaca yarns from Joseph Galler Yarns. Well, they now have a lovely Heather Alpaca beautiful heather shades of color
and 665 yards to a skein, makes for a lovely project. And if that wasn’t soft enough, we have
Cupcake, a delicious silk/alpaca blend in
nine equally soft colors. Knits beautifully a on US 5-7. I made the heart hat out of it and loved working with it.
Mountain Colors, one
of my absolute favorite yarn companies, has some fabulous yarns! Twizzle a wool/silk mixture, absolutely perfect weight for Texas,
250 yards to a hank of hand painted lusciousnes in 20 colors as the time of typing. Bearfoot Sock yarn is also available now in many
colors, I just received a box and have not processed it in yet, but there were approximately 50 skeins inside of Bearfoot! Ask Crystal
Barth, how wonderful this year feels in Tunisian Crochet as she is crocheting the project on the front cover of Interweave Crochet.
Mountain Goat a great Mohair/wool mixture is in stock also in about 7 colors! River Twist and Wool Crepe are on back order but
will be arriving soon! Skacel’s Zauberball and Zauberball Crazy are still leaving the store as soon as we get them in. We have some of
the new colors now but they do not last long. It seems we have a perpetual back order from the company. They tell us to be patient as
it is a very hot yarn right now. I personally just finished a
ABBA (a free download pattern from Ravelry!)scarf to match my socks! It
was fun to knit and is stunning to look at! New Colors in
Royal Tweed from our favorite Muench Yarns, as well as Issue 40 of
Rebecca Magazine. New Colors in Lorna’s Laces Pearl are on their way. So much yarn, so little time.

HELMET LINERS
There is so much news on this front so to speak! Yesterday I walked into the store and checked email, not only was I surprised but
delighted to pass on a message from a soldier in Iraq that received his helmet liner and took time out of his life to send an email to
thank us and tell us how much it is appreciated. Short and sweet is was, but it brought tears to my eyes to think that in the middle of
the chaos they are in, someone still took the time to say thank you to us. Overwhelming it is. We also had Major Early email us and tell
us that pictures of the soldiers with their helmet liners would be forthcoming.

As you all may have heard we have 3100 soldiers leaving from Fort Hood, either in May or June, it is our mission to supply all 3100 of
those soldiers with their helmet liners before they leave. We CANNOT do this without your continued help and support. We have now
been given permission to do scarves, knitted or crocheted. They can have no holes, fringe, fun stuff. It has to be the same kind of yarn,
100% wool, same colors, black, brown, DARK tan, olive green, navy or Dark Taupe, remember folks this is for the safety of the
soldiers. They are no longer accepting the old style crocheted helmet liners. Please use the new pattern or your helmet liners will be
ripped
out and reknit by one of knitters to meet the military standards, please help keep the work flowing by checking your gauge and
knitting the helmet liners correctly. Try them on if they are too big for you they are too big for the soldiers.

We have had some wonderful stories told to us about the helmet liners and all of them are close to my heart. A lady from Portland,
Oregon mailed us a helmet liner. The note that came with it was for the store, but I stuck it in a helmet liner because I thought a
soldier would really appreciate it. She lived in China for a long period of time and
knew exactly how cold it got over there she wanted
her helmet liner to go to a soldier who didn’t have family support. Then there was George and Barbara McElroy, who came in right
before Christmas, neither of them knitted or crocheted but their young son Joe Schiano who was just married in June had been
deployed to Afghanistan. His phone calls home brought sadness and worry as he continued to tell his parents how cold he and his
buddies were. Somehow they found out about our helmet liner drive, gave us a very generous donation to have more helmet liners made
and I gave them five helmet liners one for their son and four for him to pass out to his close buddies. Every day, I hear a story like
this. The reason I am passing them on is to let you, the generous knitters and crocheters know how very much they are wanted, needed
and appreciated. You are contributing to the war effort in a very important way. Keep those notes coming they complete the package.

And the Great news is that our local media is behind the Helmet Liner Drive and doing everything they can do to help us get the word
out. I hope some of you got to see the Photographer’s Special on New Year’s Day, Channel 11 and The Tour of Giving show which aired
Jan. 2nd on Verizon and Time Warner Cable. Angie has told us that the show will be airing locally sometime in February she hopes. We
will keep you informed. Channel 8 has come through one more time. Good Morning Texas will be here to film live on Wednesday,
January 27th. We need all knitters and crocheters here by 8::00am, yes 8:00am that morning.

This is a live broadcast from Channel 8 Good Morning Texas that morning, please join us for some early morning knitting and
crocheting as well as doughnuts, coffee and TV TIME!! Please help the helmet liner drive and come give a show of support for our
troops!

We have only three openings left in the sock class and I think 2 left in the Fingerless glove class and three left in the Your Sweater
Your Way class, please sign up early as these classes do fill!

WEBSITE
We are working hard on the website. Lori has stepped in and took over 300 pictures for the sight. I will be spending lots of time on
the computer over the next week trying to link the pictures to the newsletter and getting the shopping cart up and running. You can
now reach us better thru the email links on the site, so please feel free to test them. On the Classes on the website. All classes are on
Saturday and the Saturdays with classes should be a pink color, the day of the week should be yellow and holidays should be a yellow
graidenting to pink. If you are interested in a class just click email us above the calendar. We love having you in classes and I
espiecally love teaching the upcoming classes. Classes need to be signed up for one week prior to class unless I am late getting our the
class schedule, so this Saturday’s classes can still be signed up for and paid the day of the class.

One Last Piece of News
We would like to welcome Bee Jenkins on board. Bee and I go way back when she bought rabbits from one of my first angora rabbit
litters. Bee works on Monday’s and Saturdays. She is still learning but is eager to try to help.

Some of you might have noticed the 6"5 man hanging around the store lately. That man happens to be my husband Greg. After 17 years
in this business I have finally got him interested in learning the business. So far there have been lots of giggles, espiecally after he had
been knitting for a few hours and
I heard him proclaim, Oh, I get it, you are moving the stitches from this needle to this one. Ladies
you know I was choking on that one!! He has learned to knit and to purl and tonight he starts on his first helmet liner! He can talk to
you about gauge, show you where yarn is, ring up sales and he is still learning, so come in and meet the newest knitter in my family and
Yarn Heaven’s latest helper. He is still doing tile so if you need that done, feel free to ask about that also!
